Who is Nathaniel Hawthorne - 953 Words

â€Å"Let men tremble to win the hand of a woman, unless they win along with it the utmost passion of her heart† is one of my favorite quotes that Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote from the Scarlet Letter. Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American writer, that wrote fictional stories. He was a gifted writer that was influenced to use his gift by a well known man, with the name of Ralph Waldo Emerson. I believe Nathaniel had an talent to make stories rhyme with detail, that sets the scene in your very, own mind. Hawthorne had a interesting life, he enjoyed writing short stories, like Twice-Told Tales†(that he had wrote in 1837), and reading. Nathaniel also had a secret that people then didnt know, but people now these days do. His actual birth name is†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, this story is mainly about a highly respected minister in New England, named Reverend Hooper, who enters a church wearing a black veil, causing quit the confusion from his parishioners. He gave a ceremony about sins that people hide in their hearts, he did a funeral and a wedding, all while wearing the black veil, which made the people in the church upset that he would present himself like this. Everybody in town talks about it, but no one dared to ask why he did it, except his fiance. He told her â€Å"It’s a sign of his sorrows and he will not remove it†. The vail has caused many people of all age to be scared of him. Some feel as if their behind a veil with him as well, but others dont, just like how some of the dying sinners call out for him personally, and some dont. Mr.Hoppers fiancee broke off the engagem ent, but she still kept up with the happenings of him. Reverend became deathly ill. But even at his death bed he still refuses to remove the veil. He simply tells the crowd that they have avoided him and shown him no pity, just because he wore the black veil. He called them hypocrites even though they all wear black veils and shield their eyes from god to, just not physically. Mr.Hooper eventually dies, but is buried still wearing the black veil. The story he wrote was very interesting and also had a meaning to it. The meaning of the story is to recognise your sins and own up to them, instead of hiding behind them.Show MoreRelatedNathaniel Hawthorne and His Projected Self in the Scarlett Letter970 Words   |  4 PagesNathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of the most influential authors during the Romanticism time period. Time Management and Learning Styles Essay - 1146 Words

Time Management and Learning Styles In a society where life seems to be a race against time for many, time is precious. Going to nursing school has allowed me to explore the nurse’s role. Consequently, I think of time management more than ever. There is no doubt that managing time wisely is fundamental when caring for multiple patients. However, efficient time distribution is important in all aspects. As a married, full-time college student who works part-time, I know that taking care of school, job, family, and housework as well as getting appropriate rest, nutrition, and having some leisure time seems too much to fit in 24 hours. The challenges of online learning are what intrigue me the most. I was aware of how, with this system, feedback is not immediate and the interaction among professor and students varies. In contrast, I was unaware of the extent of these and other challenges. Whitehead (2006) stated that online learning lacks â€Å"camaraderie that may help boost enthusiasm and motivation† as well as it â€Å"may lead to a feeling of isolation.† In addition, he explained how having that much flexibility may lead to procrastination in some instances, computers or storage hard drives may break down, and in online learning, there is no oral communication (Whitehead, 2006). Therefore, mediocre pricing strategy is used where not more than 540 customers could be entertained on that single day. Hence, keeping the pricing strategy at with mediocre level could eventually help in attracting high standard citizens, which will provide adequate revenue for the event management c ompany. Recommending the most appropriate source of finance, relevant income streams and pricing strategies: From the evaluation of all the above measures relevant measures that will be needed for completing the Christmas party are adequately identified. Therefore, the overall source of finance that will be needed in the Christmas party is from retained income and short term loans. use of retained income and short term loan could eventually help the event organising company to minimise the finance cost. Furthermore, this would eventually help in increasing the revenue generated from the Christmas event. The income stream is also depicted in the above tables where relevant sales from DJ party, wine cellar visit, restaurant and Salon Prive will be conducted to generate the required level of revenue from the event. Lastly, the mediocre pricing strategy adopted by the event management company could eventually help in attracting high class customers, who could bear the selling prices of the service and food. Hence, the use of above measures could eventually help the event management company to s moothly conduct its operations and successfully complete the Christmas event. Staying Healthy and Eating Right Essay Example For Students

Staying Healthy and Eating Right Essay Staying Healthy and Eating Right Essay is a lifestyle that many people should consider. A juicy hamburger from McDonalds dripping with special sauce topped with cheese is not exactly considered a healthy meal. Our society today is busy and on the go at all times. It is so much easier to stop and get fast food and then continue on. However, we should stop and think; is it really worth it to not eat right and exercise? Studies have shown, people that eat right and exercise live longer. Eating fattening foods clogs your heart with cholesterol and fat. People that do not exercise and continue to eat unhealthy foods will slow their metabolism. This is why over 70% of our society are overweight today. My grandfather has had problems with his heart in the past mostly because he was very overweight and eating the wrong foods. The doctor advised him to exercise and eat right. Now, after two years of following this advice, his heart is stronger than ever. We will write a custom essay on Staying Healthy and Eating Right specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The doctor informed him that at least ten years has been added to his life. Exercising and eating right really does help you to live longer. Eating healthy foods and exercising also helps to build persons self-esteem. Many people who are overweight do not feel good about themselves. They want to be thinner but instead of doing it the right way, they try crash diets that seem to always fail or do nothing at all about their condition. If we would exercise at least 45 minutes per day, 3 to 4 times per week, it is guaranteed that we lose weight and get in shape. When a person is at the size and stature that they would like to be then their self-esteem rises. If one has a good attitude and think they look great then more than likely other people will also. When one exercises and eats good foods then they also physically feel great. The fact that one has just spent an hour on the treadmill and a salad was for dinner makes a person feel as if they are really accomplishing something. If people would realize what a great feeling a person gets from working out and eating healthy foods then everyone would be doing it. It is a lifestyle that people should adopt and live by. It should also make one feel good that they are doing something to better themselves. All of us have areas that we can improve on. By improving our physical imperfections it makes us feel great. Some people were raised to eat everything on their plate whether it was healthy or not. If your mom made the food, then it was eaten. What our generation should do is learn from our parents mistakes. We should start cooking our children healthier foods so that they will grow up knowing and living healthier lifestyles. Others say that there is just not enough time to exercise or that fat free foods dont taste as good as fattening foods. However, we should make the time to exercise so that we can improve our mental and physical state. Also, there are now even fat free potato chips on the market that taste exactly the same as regular potato chips. Some people say that problems make them eat more, but we should practice more self-control during times that we are having problems. There are also the people that say they are not able to exercise because of physical problems, however, they are still able to eat healthy foods. In fact, people that do suffer from physical ailments and are not able to exercise should be that much more interested in learning to eat healthy. These excuses for choosing to live unhealthy in my opinion are just that; excuses! It is now time to make our choice. A healthy lifestyle and learning to exercise will benefit each one of us. Will we continue to live as unhealthy blobs, or will we take a little time out of our busy schedules so that we can live longer, raise our self-esteem, and feel great? Make a choice! .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .postImageUrl , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:hover , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:visited , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:active { border:0!important; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:active , .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4075c3bec2b049fa49b9de439e02102e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Biology - Genetics The Cystic Fibrosis Gene Introd EssayBibliography: .

Rabbit Proof Fence essays

Rabbit Proof Fence essays Phillip Noyces Rabbit Proof Fence expresses many of the values and attitudes regarding respect and dignity. This is clearly shown by the unjust policy enforced by the government during the 1930s with the mistreatment of the aboriginal people. Using the Molly, Daisy and Gracie, and their tale, Noyce creates a story that explores and contrasts issues such as the aborigines relationship with the land with the enormous achievement of returning home, the spiritual bond within the family and the injustice of the children removal. Rabbit Proof Fence, in many ways, represents lifes ups and downs, and how some things are unfair. In this case, Mollys journey home to Jigalong represents her stand against what we now call racial prejudice. The injustice is clearly shown when the girls are taken from their mother and driven away in a police car with their depressed and upset faces pressed up against the window of the car. Though the government, under the control of A.O Neville, had good intentions, it is evident that times had never been worse for the aboriginal people. The depression and heartache of being separated from their family is apparent among the children at the Moore River settlement. The injustice and prejudice experienced by all the aboriginal people would later have a great effect on the family kinship. Throughout Noyces film Rabbit Proof Fence, spirituality and family kinship are major themes that are continually offered. The film begins with Molly and her mother gazing at a spirit bird and Maud says: ...it will always look after you... By using this quote early in the film, Phillip Noyce tells the audience that family kinship is very important in the aboriginal community and that this theme will may be further developed in the film. After being stolen from their community and put in the Moore River settlement, Molly and the girls escape and ...

Free Essays on Robert Sokolowski

Robert Sokolowski and Stephen Pope have two very different ideas on the legalization of same-sex marriage. Sokolowski is a firm believer that Marriage has traditionally been understood to be a human relationship ordered toward reproduction and he feels that if same-sex marriages are allowed then the whole idea of marriage may be ruined. Once the aspect of reproduction is taken out of marriage then any couple, two or more, who feels they should get married just to reek the financial benefits of the marriage may do so. Stephen Pope On the other hand is for same-sex marriage. While Pope agrees with Sokolowski in the fact that in the past marriage has been related to child-bearings but Pope feels that child-rearing should not be the first and defining characteristic of marriage. In Sokolowskis, The Threat of Same-Sex Marriage, he talks about gay marriage and the consequences it would have if allowed. In his defense against same-sex marriage he raises four key points. The first point argues that if same-sex marriage would ruin the traditional notion which states that procreation defines what marriage is. Marriage would then have to be defined as just the exchange of sex. His second point is that if that is true then any group of people who are friends may come together and marry just to reap the financial gains that marriage may offer, including couples of two or more people. This is because as long as marriage is defined as adults engaging in sexual relations, then multi-partner relationships would fit into that category. The third point is that if we go against the idea of marriage and procreation going hand in hand then we are going against the ancient idea that the nature of things determines their good and proper functioning. The final idea is that the defining characteristic of marriage is the procreation of life and not mutual love. He feels that these two things are on different levels and should not be group into ... Compare young peoples expectations for marriage and the reality of Essay

Compare young peoples expectations for marriage and the reality of married life - Essay Example Nevertheless, compromising is not an easy issue as presumed by the young people. Married couples always have many challenges that they find it hard to compromise, instead they fight and argue over many things such as income, sex, personality and children handling which may even lead to divorce or separation (Bhalla 56-60). Additionally, many young people expect to have their leisure time which they would spend together by going on picnics, dating on weekends. Unfortunately, there is always a lot of work to do at home such as cleaning especially on weekends which denies the couple ample time to enjoy leisure. Also there are always events to attend on weekends such as weddings and birthdays as well as inadequate vacation time that deny them pleasurable time (Bhalla 56-60). Moreover, young people normally expect to have enough money that would help them buy big houses and nice cars but the reality is that money is never enough. There are lots of things whose budgets are assumed such as groceries and electronics that impose financial constrains to the already hiking prices of homes. It is therefore apparent that more money is always required in marriage than what is normally expected by young people (Bhalla 56-60). For many youths expecting too much than marriage offers, it is important to learn about the differences between expectations and reality. Knowing and understanding reality in marriage may make young couples live an ideal life in
